Is the Sony WH-1000XM6 Worth It?
Our honest take after thorough analysis.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 continues Sony's reign as the noise-cancelling headphone king. The ANC is marginally better than the XM5, battery life remains class-leading at 40 hours, and LDAC support ensures excellent wireless audio quality. The iterative design and bulky case are minor quibbles. If you want the best ANC and don't need Apple ecosystem integration, these are the headphones to buy. XM5 owners can wait; XM3/4 owners should upgrade.
- Best-in-class active noise cancellation (marginal improvement over XM5)
- Exceptional 40-hour battery life with ANC
- Comfortable for all-day wear at 250g
- LDAC Hi-Res Audio support
- Design is iterative, not revolutionary vs XM5
- Case is still bulky for travel
- No IP rating for water/sweat resistance
- Sony Headphones app could be more polished

The noise cancellation is magic
I use these on flights and in open offices. The ANC is so good it's disorienting at first. Sound signature is warm and detailed. LDAC with Tidal is incredible. Battery lasts my whole work week.

Coming from XM5s, the improvements are real but subtle. Better ANC, slightly better call quality, same great comfort. Worth upgrading if you have XM3/4. XM5 owners can wait.
I fly 2-3x monthly and these are essential. The ANC turns airplane roar into a distant whisper. Comfortable for 8+ hour flights. Speak-to-Chat is great for ordering drinks.
Sound quality is fantastic with LDAC. ANC is top of class. But the Sony app sometimes loses connection and EQ resets. Minor software gripes on otherwise excellent hardware.
